Question
How is an admission into a psychiatric partial hospitalization program reported?
AMA Comment
As stated in the Hospital Inpatient Services guidelines of CPT, the hospital inpatient services codes include those services provided to patients in a "partial hospital" setting. Based on these guidelines, the appropriate code from 99221-99223 should be reported for an admission into a partial hospital setting.
