Question: If a true tunica vaginalis hydrocele repair (not a hydrocelectomy) is performed as described by CPT code 55060, can repair of tunica vaginalis hydrocele (Bottle type), be reported separately or is it inclusive of the hernia repair?
Answer: It may be reported separately. Code 55060 describes a Bottle repair (tunica is wrapped and sutured posteriorly around the epididymus), which is different from a hydrocelectomy (tunica is excised). Therefore, code 55060 is exclusive of a hernia repair, which would be a separately reportable procedure.
