Question
Can I report codes 31622, Bronchoscopy, (rigid or flexible); diagnostic with or without cell washing (separate procedure), and 31629, Bronchoscopy, (rigid or flexible); with transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy, if the physician performs both services during the same session?
AMA Comment
In CPT 2000, code 31622 was revised and is now designated as a separate procedure. Therefore, since a surgical bronchoscopy always includes diagnostic bronchoscopy when performed by the same physician, it would not be appropriate to report code 31622 with code 31629. Only code 31629...
