Surgical Laparoscopy with Adrenalectomy
Increasingly, procedures that have traditionally required an open surgical field are now performed using a laparoscopic approach, which requires only small incisions to create portal accesses into the abdominal area. A specific code describing laparoscopic adrenalectomy was added to the endocrine system section of the CPT 2000 manual. When a surgical laparoscopic procedure is preceded by a diagnostic laparoscopy, the diagnostic procedure is considered an inclusive component of the surgical procedure, and would not be reported separately.
