CPT code 96913 has been categorized as an "incident to" code. This means that it is covered incident to a physician's service when it is furnished by auxiliary personnel employed by the physician and working under the physician's direct supervision.
Payment will not be made for this service when it is furnished to hospital inpatients or patients in a hospital outpatient department. Physicians may bill for evaluation and management services in those settings.
