Correction of the Metatarsalphalangeal (MTP) Joint with Implant
Patient has a history of arthritic bunion which has failed conservative treatment. The patient presents to have correction of the metatarsalphalangeal (MTP) joint with an implant along with a tendon transfer. Is CPT code 28293 the correct code for the insertion of the implant in the MTP joint? Is it appropriate to also report the tendon transfer separately or would it be included with the repair of the bunion? If the tendon transfer can be separately reported, what would be the correct code?
