July 2004 page 12 Coding Communication:Corneal Pachymetry In recent years, pachymetry has become an important component of the accurate diagnosis of glaucoma. This article will define glaucoma before explaining corneal pachymetry. Glaucoma Stedman’s Medical Dictionary defines glaucoma as “a disease of the eye characterized by increased intraocular pressure and excavation and atrophy of the optic nerve.
