The patient, who is status post bilateral total hip replacement, presented with a fluid collection around the right hip. Infection was ruled-out, but high levels of metal ions were found. As a result, she underwent right hip revision arthroplasty. After removal of the cobalt chrome head, a large amount of black precipitate was noted on the device. There was black discoloration along the medial inferior capsule adjacent due to significant corrosion.
