Amblyopia (lazy eye), the decreased vision in one or both eyes due to abnormal vision development during childhood, occurs when the brain and the eye do not work together properly (strabismus) or when there is nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism (unequal vision between the eyes) or when there is a congenital cataract, drooping eyelid, or similar condition that covers the lens of the eye.
