Angioscopy

Note: As of October 1, 1986, percutaneous angioscopy is coded to 38.22. The current code assignment for diagnostic percutaneous angioscopy is 38.29, Other diagnostic procedures on blood vessels. Angioscopy involves the insertion of miniature, flexible fiberoptic bundles into the blood vessels. The instrumentation can provide an enhanced "road map" in directing and modifying intraoperative cardiovascular surgical therapy. Angioscopy has advantages over conventional angiography, especially for patients who have a history of allergic reactions to or renal failure caused by contrast agents.
