Aplastic Anemia

Effective October 1, 2006, the title for category 284, Aplastic anemia, has been revised to “Aplastic anemia and other bone marrow failure syndromes.” Code 284.0, Constitutional aplastic anemia, has been expanded to distinguish between constitutional red blood cell aplasia (284.01) and other constitutional aplastic anemia (284.09). In addition, two new codes have been created to report pancytopenia (284.1) and myelophthisis (284.2). Aplastic anemias involve a diverse group of bone marrow disorders.
