We would like to obtain clarification on the appropriate use of CPT code 87046, Bacterial stool culture, additional pathogens, isolation and presumptive identification of isolates. In 2003, we assigned this code for each pathogen because a plate is prepared for each organism or isolate. The code title was revised for 2004 and now it appears we can no longer use this code for each plate. What code would we report for additional plates prepared for the organism or isolate? ...
