We treat many patients with Alport's syndrome, which has progressed to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and renal transplantation is performed. Since progressive renal failure is not always inherent to the condition, would both code 585, Chronic renal failure, and code 759.89, Other specified anomalies, Other, be assigned for this condition? If both codes can be assigned, which code would be the principal diagnosis? ...
