Burns and Respiratory Failure Due to Smoke Inhalation
A worker suffered a steam burn to multiple areas of the face following a boiler explosion. On arrival to the emergency department, the patient’s face was erythematous but there were no blisters. He was having some difficulty speaking and had a hoarse voice. The physician documents upper airway inflammation due to the steam. The patient was intubated and ventilated for 48 hours because of airway inflammation and edema from the steam and heat. How should this be coded?
