The patient is a 65-year-old male, who presents to the emergency department (ED), with complaints of severe chest pain and suffers a full cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is initiated, and the patient is defibrillated, intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation. He is admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). Shortly after admission to the ICU, the patient’s family decides to withdraw life support and the patient expires. The underlying cause of the cardiac arrest is unknown.
