Cardiac Mapping (Direct), 37.29

Note: As of October 1, 1988, cardiac mapping is coded to 37.27. An adjunctive type of EP study, known as mapping, currently assigned to 37.29, is used in patients for whom surgical treatment of the arrhythmia is considered, usually after drug or pacing therapy has failed to control the tachycardia. Mapping localizes the arrhythmogenic focus and traces the path of aberrant conduction. This procedure uses a multipoled catheter that records endocardial electrocardiograms to determine where the tachycardia originates.
