Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy

The Central Office on ICD-9-CM has received numerous questions since the creation of new procedure codes for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) or biventricular pacing. Cardiac resynchronization therapy with or without a defibrillator involves placing electrical leads in the right atrium, the right ventricle and into the coronary sinus. The coronary sinus is a venous channel that empties into the right atrium, and it is fed by cardiac veins that lie on the outside of the left ventricle.
