Chondritis of Pinna (Ear)

Effective October 1, 2004, a new code has been added to subcategory 380.0, Perichondritis and chondritis of pinna, to uniquely identify chondritis of the pinna (380.03). Auricle perichondritis is a bacterial infection of the skin and layer of tissue around the cartilage of the outer ear, which usually results from trauma or surgery. Recently, ear piercing through the cartilage has become a more significant risk factor for this condition.
