CMS modifies the implementation of mid-year Category III CPT codes

Beginning in July 2006, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will recognize the category III CPT codes in the regular updates of the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS). The category III CPT codes released by the American Medical Association (AMA) in January 2006 will be implemented in July 2006 and the category III CPT codes released by the AMA in July 2006 will be recognized by CMS in the January 2007 update of the OPPS.
