CMS provides clarification on take-home drugs

CMS has recently clarified that all hospitals are to bill the appropriate durable medical equipment carrier (DMERC) for certain take-home drugs. Hospitals are required to have a supplier number for billing the DMERC for take-home supplies of these drugs. There are two ways to obtain a supplier number: 1. Hospitals can call the National Supplier Clearinghouse (NSC) directly for an application form, or 2. Hospitals may go to the CMS Web site, http://www.cms.hhs.gov/cmsforms/downloads/cms855s.pdf and download the application form CMS-855-S in Adobe Acrobat format.
