CMS Updates Guidance on the Reporting of Modifier JW for Discarded Drugs Not Administered

CMS continues to instruct physicians, hospitals or other providers or suppliers to append modifier JW, Discarded drug not administered, should it be necessary to discard the remainder of a single use vial or other single use package after administering a dose/quantity of the drug or biological to a Medicare patient. Modifier JW identifies the unused drug or biologicals from single use vials or single use packages that are appropriately discarded.
