Coding Clarification

In the Fourth Quarter 2017 issue of Coding Clinic for HCPCS, page 5, guidance was provided pertaining to code assignment for an arthroscopic subchondroplasty performed on a patient with tibial plateau insufficiency fractures. In addition to the subchondroplasty, debridement/shaving of the medial femoral condyle, patella and synovial thickening was performed with drainage of fluid. The published advice states that the subchrondroplasty is inherent to the primary procedure. However, in this case, the subchondroplasty is the primary procedure.
