Early Cesarean Section

Effective October 1, 2011, a new code (649.8) has been created at category 649, Other conditions or status of the mother complicating pregnancy, childbirth, or the puerperium, to identify delivery by planned cesarean section (C-section) when onset of labor occurs after 37 completed weeks of gestation, but before 39 completed weeks gestation. The code will allow data collection for quality markers involving elective cesarean deliveries performed between 37 and 39 weeks gestation.
