Edentulism

Effective October 1, 2005, new codes have been created to identify stages of partial and complete edentulism (acquired absence of teeth). Prior to this change, edentulism was reported using subcategory 525.1, Loss of teeth due to trauma, extraction, or periodontal disease. Subcategory 525.1 classifies edentulism based on the cause of teeth loss. The new subcategories identify the degree of tooth loss. A code for complete edentulism (525.40-525.44) or partial edentulism (525.50-525.54) is assigned first, followed by a code to identify the cause of edentulism (525.10-525.19), if known. ...
