Erosion and Exposure of Implanted Vaginal Mesh

Effective October 1, 2011, two new codes have been created to identify erosion of implanted vaginal mesh and other prosthetic materials to surrounding organ or tissue (629.31) and exposure of implanted vaginal mesh into vagina (629.32). Vaginal prolapse is a common condition where the bladder, uterus and or bowel protrude into the vagina. One method used to treat this condition is an abdominal sacral colpopexy.
