Expansion of Fields For ICD-9-CM Codes on UB-82

The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) has announced that effective October 1, 1991, it will accept up to nine diagnosis and six procedure codes on inpatient bills. Although the current Form UB-82 (the paper billing form used for Medicare discharges) contains fixed fields for only five diagnoses and three procedures, instructions that accompany the UB-82 explain how to report the additional codes.
