Fourth Digit Filler for Specified Obstetric Codes

Several codes in the obstetric section of ICD-9-CM have no fourth digits but require fifth digits. The addendum for October 1, 1991, now instructs coders to use a zero (0) as a filler digit in the fourth position with the follow codes: 645 Prolonged pregnancy 657 Polyhydramnios 670 Major puerperal infection 672 Pyrexia of unknown origin during the puerperium ...
