Effective October 1, 2008, category 339, Other headache syndromes, was created to provide unique codes for a number of different types of headache syndromes. In addition, changes have been made to category 346, Migraine, to provide additional specificity in the classification of migraines. These changes were made to align with current terminology used in the clinical classification of headaches as developed by the Headache Classification Subcommittee of the International Headache Society (IHS).
