Healing fractures in patient admitted for other acute condition

The ICD-9-CM contains special codes for the classification of orthopedic conditions. Patients with fractures that have been treated and are then seen in the outpatient departments or even admitted to the hospital for other conditions receive selected V codes which were specially designed for such cases. Note: As of October 1, 2002, category V54 has been greatly expanded to differentiate between aftercare for healing traumatic fractures vs aftercare for healing pathological fractures.
