HEMORRHAGE/HEMATOMA/SEROMA

Code 998.1, Hemorrhage or hematoma complicating a procedure, has been expanded to allow for separate identification of these conditions as well as seroma complicating a procedure. Prior to October 1, 1996, seroma, a tumor-like collection of serum in the tissues, was indexed to hematoma. A seroma is generally associated with post-operative episodes. Seromas may also become infected.
