Hypersensitivity (Anaphylactic) Reactions

Effective October 1, 1993, a new subcategory 995.6, Anaphylactic shock due to adverse food reaction, has been created. It will now be possible to individually identify adverse food reactions due to peanuts, crustaceans, and fruits/vegetables, tree nuts/seeds, fish, food additives, milk products, and eggs. Code 995.0, now reads Other anaphylactic shock. Instructional notes have been added to code any underlying conditions and to use E-codes to identity external causes.
