Effective October 1, 2006, new codes have been created to differentiate between laparoscopic and other types of hysterectomies: Laparoscopic total abdominal hysterectomy (68.41) Other and unspecified total abdominal hysterectomy (68.49) Laparoscopic radical abdominal hysterectomy (68.61) Other and unspecified radical abdominal hysterectomy (68.69) Laparoscopic radical vaginal hysterectomy (68.71) Other and unspecified radical vaginal hysterectomy (68.79) Hysterectomies are among the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the United States.
