Intra-Operative Neurophysiologic Monitoring

Effective October 1, 2007, code 00.94, Intra-operative neurophysiologic monitoring, has been created to uniquely identify neurophysiologic testing performed during surgical procedures. Intra-operative neurophysiologic monitoring (IOM) involves using one or more neurophysiologic testing techniques in real time in the operating room to assess the integrity of neural structures. It includes cranial nerve, peripheral nerve and spinal cord testing performed intra-operatively. Commonly used modalities include: electroencephalogram, somatosensory evoked potentials, brainstem auditory evoked potentials, electromyogram, nerve conduction studies, motor evoked potentials and transcranial Doppler.
