Long QT Syndrome

A new code, 426.82, has been created to identify long QT syndrome. Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a disorder of the heart’s electrical system characterized by a prolongation of the QT interval on electrocardiogram (ECG). It is associated with recurrent syncope and sudden death. A number of specified genetic defects have been identified as causes of the long QT syndrome, most of which involve genes for ion channels that control repolarization of the heart.
