Metatarsophalangeal Joint Resection Arthroplasty

The patient presented with right hallux metatarsophalangeal (MTP) osteomyelitis, and underwent resection arthroplasty of the MTP joint. During the procedure, imbrication of the medial capsule was also carried out using suture to hold the toe in correct position; thereby correcting the hallux valgus deformity. Stimulant beads using vancomycin and gentamicin were then packed into the MTP joint. Although the procedure is titled “Metatarsophalangeal Joint Resection Arthroplasty,” we are not sure if the entire MTP joint was resected.
