Recent studies and literature suggests that ovarian cancer may actually originate in the fallopian tubes rather than in the ovaries. Women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations have a significantly increased risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Women with BRCA gene mutations usually have their ovaries and fallopian tubes removed at the same time, since they have an increased risk of fallopian tube cancer as well.
