Monitoring for Adverse Effect of Long-Term Medication

A 20-year-old patient with a history of severe acne was seen at our facility. She had been started on Accutane therapy one month ago and now presents for monitoring of the drug to ensure that the drug is not harming her. Which code is appropriate for an encounter for blood tests in order to monitor potential adverse effects of medication? We referenced Coding Clinic, Third Quarter 2002, regarding drug monitoring for the patient’s drug level, but we are not certain that this would be the same as screening/monitoring for the adverse effects. ...
