New HCPCS codes and dosage descriptors for certain drugs, biologicals, and radiopharmaceuticals

CMS is urging hospitals to report charges for all drugs, biologicals, and radiopharmaceuticals using the correct HCPCS codes regardless of whether the items are paid separately or packaged. The units of service for these products should correlate with the quantity of the drug, biological, or radiopharmaceutical used in the care of the patient as described by the HCPCS code. Several code additions and one code deletion for drugs, biologicals, and radiopharmaceuticals were implemented for CY 2007. These code changes are listed in Table 1.
