New Section X Codes—New Technology Procedures

Effective October 1, 2015, a new section titled, “Section X New Technology” has been created in ICD-10-PCS. Two of the new section X code values describe new equipment used during a procedure: “Orbital Atherectomy Technology” (equipment used to assist in the performance of coronary artery atherectomy), and “Intraoperative Knee Replacement Sensor” (an aid used during knee replacement surgery). Additionally, there are four new section X values, describing new technology drugs: “Ceftazidime-Avibactam Anti-Infective,” “Idarucizumab Dabigatran Reversal Agent,” “Isavuconazole Anti-Infective,” and “Blinatumomab Antineoplastic Immunotherapy.” The following information is provided in...
