Parvovirus B19 Infection

Effective October 1, 2007, code 079.83, Parvovirus B19, has been created to uniquely identify infections due to this virus. Parvovirus B19 is a virus that commonly infects humans. The virus can be spread via infected respiratory secretions. The most common manifestation of human parvovirus B19 infection is erythema infectiosum also called “Fifth Disease.” Parvovirus B19 can also lead to an acute symmetrical polyarthropathy.
