Note: As of October 1, 2005, code 00.66 is used to report percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty [PTCA] or coronary atherectomy. Assign also a code to identify the number of vessels treated (00.40-00.43). When code 36.04, Intracoronary artery thrombolytic infusion, was implemented in October, 1986, it was intended to describe the infusion of platelet inhibitors. However, it was discovered that the code did not meet industry needs as 36.04 was written for direct coronary artery injection, infusion or catheterization.
