Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder

Effective October 1, 2008 code 238.77, Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD), has been created for this condition that occurs when a group of B-cells grow out of control following solid organ/bone marrow transplant in patients with weakened immune systems. While an estimated 87% of PTLD cases are of B-cell origin, there are reports of T-cell and null cell origin. PTLD is most often associated with the primary or reactivation of latent Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection.
