Procedure on Number of Vessels and Vascular Stents

Subcategory 00.4, Adjunct vascular system procedures, was created to provide additional information regarding the number of vessels that have been repaired. Codes 00.40, Procedure on single vessel, 00.41, Procedure on two vessels, 00.42, Procedure on three vessels, and 00.43, Procedure on four or more vessels, should be assigned to indicate the specific number of repaired coronary, precerebral, intracranial, peripheral, and other noncoronary vessels. These codes are to be used in conjunction with therapeutic procedure codes such as angioplasty or atherectomy, endarterectomy, insertion of vascular stents, or removal of coronary artery obstruction.
