Rechargeable Neurostimulator Pulse Generator

Effective October 1, 2005, new codes have been created to specifically identify single and dual array rechargeable neurostimulator pulse generators (86.97-86.98). The codes currently available for neurostimulator pulse generators do not distinguish between the types of neurostimulator generators. Codes 86.94 and 86.95 have been revised to exclude rechargeable pulse generators. Current neurostimulators have a pulse generator equipped with a battery that will deplete over time and eventually need replacement.
