Note: Effective October 1, 2006, assign 345.9X Epilepsy, unspecified, for seizure disorder, not otherwise specified and recurrent seizures.. Note: As of October 1, 1997, recurrent seizures is coded to 780.39. All cases of recurrent seizures are not epilepsy. Recurrent seizures may be caused by a variety of conditions other than epilepsy (e.g., central nervous system neoplasms, toxic effects of drugs, metabolic disorders). If no cause for the recurrent seizures is documented, the physician should be asked if epilepsy is an appropriate diagnosis for the patient.
