Repair of Lipomyelomeningocele and Tethered Cord

A 5-week-old baby, who is diagnosed with lipomyelomeningocele and tethered cord, presents for untethering of the cord, excision of the lipoma, which involved the lumbosacral portion of the spinal cord, and microdissection of the spinal cord. At surgery, the area above the lipoma was dissected, and a S1 laminoplasty was performed. After freeing up the dural edges, the lipoma was dissected.
