Salter-Harris Fractures and Other Physeal Fractures of Foot and Ankle

New codes have been created to identify Salter-Harris physeal fractures and other physeal fractures of the ankle and foot. These codes are classified in category S99, Other and unspecified injuries of foot and ankle. Physeal fractures are fractures that go through the growth plate in growing young people. Physeal fractures are classified into Salter-Harris fracture types (they are named for the authors who first described these fractures). Salter-Harris physeal fractures are classified as type I, type II, type III, type IV and type V.
