Spinal Motion Preservation Procedures

Effective October 1, 2007, a new subcategory (84.8) has been created to report the insertion, replacement and revision of posterior spinal motion preservation devices. The new procedure codes have been created to distinguish different types of motion preservation technologies being used. These devices are also called dynamic spinal stabilization devices. Prior to the creation of the new codes, several of the procedures were captured with code 84.59, Insertion of other spinal devices.
