Stoma Creation and Takedown Procedures

Bowel diversion surgery may be done to treat colorectal pathology, including but not limited to colon and rectal malignancies, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, Hirschprung’s disease, and intestinal injury. Stomas are formed from the large intestine (colostomy) or from the small intestine (ileostomy); may be temporary or permanent; and can involve either an end stoma or a loop stoma.
