Suspended Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits

Effective February 12, 2001, the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) officially suspended the most recent Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits in a Program Memorandum (PM) on February 8, 2001 (Transmittal B-01-09). The PM states that CCI edits involving evaluation and management (E/M) codes and various XXX procedures, in addition to ophthalmologic general services (92002-92014) with various procedure codes are presently suspended. (XXX procedure codes refer to codes that are not global in the Medicare system.) This suspension of CCI edits will be retroactive to the start date of October 30, 2000.
